Family Members
One of the many objectives of Canadian immigration law is to see the families reunited. The Canadian government places significant emphasis on the importance of family unity and value. There are several streams related to family reunification to reflect that priority.
- Canadian citizens or permanent residents over the age of 18 are permitted to sponsor family members who wish to immigrate to Canada. Below are the details on which family members can be sponsored under Family Class Sponsorship:
- Spousal Sponsorship: Married couples, common law partners and conjugal partners (including same-sex partners)
- Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship (Permanent Residence)
- Parent and Grandparent Super visa (Temporary Residence)
- Dependent Child Sponsorship and Other Sponsorship: This includes dependent children, adopted children, orphaned family members, and other family members under exceptional circumstances

- There are Provincial Family Class Sponsorship programs also available which do not fall under Federal Family Class Program.
